Home On Wheels: A Tiny House That Allowed A Couple To Travel 45,000 Miles

The couple from Long Island (both documentary filmmakers) fell in love with each other in North Carolina and decided to build a house that’ll let them travel across the country. The tiny 130-square-foot house of Alexis Stephens and Christian Parsons has allowed them to travel across 36 US states and a Canadian province. They live a nomadic life now!

The couple first considered reducing the size of their house from American-sized homes that are around 2,500 ft when they came back from a road trip together. Parsons was the one who introduced the idea of not only down-sizing the house, but going super tiny.

the couple in front of their house

Alexis said “Our personal journey to tiny living was born out of desire to simplify, create more flexibility and embrace everyday adventure.”

They started the construction in the autumn of 2014, and it took them about 9 months to build the home. Stephens says that the construction was slow and long, but it was worth the wait and effort. The main challenge of the entire project was to build a house “on wheels”, which comes with legal placement or parking issue.

Stephens says “Christian and I poured our hearts into the building of our tiny house, and it contains all of our belongings. The first time we took it on the road my heart was pounding, but the more we’ve done it, the less stressful it’s become.”

Although their wonderful house is small, but it has every essential thing they need during their travel. The tiny home has a kitchen, living space, bathroom, kitchen, a small refrigerator, and a small bedroom. If you’re interested in their life and progress of their home, you can follow them on Tiny House Expedition.

Breaking Records: World’s Longest Sandstone Cave Just Got Discovered In Meghalaya!

Apart from the stunning waterfalls and the beautiful living root bridges in Meghalaya, the state now has another attraction in store for you! Four scientists from Italy, 30 cavers from Europe, and members of the Meghalaya Adventurers’ Association (MAA) have discovered the world’s longest sandstone cave in Meghalaya, which is 6,000 meters longer than Cueva El Samán in Venezuela, the current listed longest cave in the world.

The discovery of the cave was a result of the recent 25-day expedition by MAA. Named as Krem Puri, the sandstone cave’s length is 24,583 meters and it is home to dinosaur fossils from around 70 million years ago, as reported in the Hindustan Times.

While the actual length of this world’s longest sandstone cave, which is located near the village of Laitsohum in the Mawsynram has been uncovered now, it is believed that is was already discovered once in 2016. Some palaeontologists believe that the fossils that have been found in the cave could actually be of the giant Mosasaurus, an extinct aquatic lizard.

Though this wasn’t the only cave discovered during this expedition. Apart from Krem Puri, nine other caves were also explored and the new ones were mapped. However, the state houses some 1,650 caves, of which some 1,000 have been explored till now.

If this sounds too intriguing to you and you’re an adventurer at heart, you’ll be happy to know that some of the other places to visit in Meghalaya that you can include in your Northeast trip itinerary are Cherrapunjee, Shella, Pynursla, Nongjri, and Langrin!

Overnight Snowfall In Saudi Arabia Turned The Desert White And We’re Loving It!

Over the last decade or so, the world is experiencing unusual climate patterns. Much to our surprise, recently it snowed in the Arabian Desert. Although it’s not entirely unexpected since last month it was the Sahara – the hottest desert in the world – which turned overnight into a winter wonderland.

— هيئة السياحة والتراث (@SCTHKSA) January 26, 2018

A rare phenomenon occurred in the Middle Eastern country which is characteristically known for its desert landscape and blazing temperatures. A short bout of snowstorm turned the crimson desert into a white fairyland. The Tabuk region, along the coast of Red Sea, in the northwest part of Saudi Arabia was swathed in snow as the mercury level suddenly dipped to a freezing minus 2 degree Celsius. The frosty weather is not entirely unusual, however, snowfall in Saudi Arabia is an uncommon occurrence. The accumulation of snow was heavier and thicker in the higher elevations. Traditionally, during the winter season in Saudi Arabia, the average temperature hovers around 20 degrees. While the jury’s still out on what caused this event, the locals can be seen, in the pictures below, making the most of this random cold snap, by either sledding down hills or taking their vehicles for a spin before the freshly fallen snow melted.

#جبل_اللوز Winter is here in tabuk ❄️. — خالد. (@ikld10) January 26, 2018

While many people seized this unique opportunity to click selfies and share their excitement on social media platforms, the Bactrian camels looked handsome and somewhat surprised with a layer of snow. Here are some more visuals of snowfall in Saudi Arabia:

A Freak Portable Charger Explosion On Flight Caused An Evacuation In Russia

An on-schedule flight from Moscow landed in Volgograd and met with an unexpected contingency as a portable charger explosion on flight caused chaos and panic amongst the passengers on board. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported regarding the same incident.

Passengers traveling from Moscow to Volgograd met with an unexpected incident when a portable charger explosion on flight caused a panicky and harrowing exit to an otherwise perfectly functioning flight.

The Aeroflot flight had already reached its destination (Volgograd), and just as the deboarding was about to begin, the flight cabin started filling up with smoke. Majority of the passengers and flight crew calmly dealt with the situation by putting off the fire and quickly evacuation through via the inflatable ladder.

Smoke in the cabin

Airline and airport authorities believe that the portable charger explosion on flight was caused due to the overheating of the electronic device. In the end, it was a lucky escape for all the passengers and flight crew on-board as the often ignored warning of carrying hazardous portable chargers created a real situation here that could have caused harm and damage to human life.

The growing need for passenger awareness

As airlines around the world try to raise awareness within the passengers by advising them not to carry such volatile devices, there is a definite need for better understanding and heading warnings seriously from the passenger side.

Travelers should be aware of the hazards that can be caused by electronic devices when overheated and put into use. The more prudent argument that can be made in this case is to avoid using electronic devices as much as possible while flying, as the hazards to these devices malfunctioning are far more than just blowing up in smoke.
